All educational institutions across the country will reopen on Sunday (August 18).
The Ministry of Education issued a directive on Thursday to reopen educational institutions under its jurisdiction and resume academic activities starting Sunday.
The notice mentioned that the chief adviser of the interim government had instructed the reopening of educational institutions and the resumption of educational activities.
The educational institutions were closed indefinitely on July 17 due to the violence centering the recent Quota Reform Movement stating the safety of students.
Meanwhile, the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams, which have been suspended for some time, will resume from September 11.
Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education published a notification in this regard on Thursday.
The Secondary and Higher Education Board issued a new schedule for the exams on Thursday in a notice signed by Inter-Education Board Exam Controller Committee Convener and Dhaka Board Education Controller Md Abul Bashar.
Exams will be held in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Jashore, Cumilla, Chattogram, Barishal, Sylhet, Dinajpur, and Mymensingh according to the schedule published by the board.
Earlier, on Tuesday evening, Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee President and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Tapan Kumar Sarker said that a proposal had been sent to the Ministry of Education for exams to resume September 11. The new schedule has been published accordingly.
It is to be mentioned, HSC and equivalent exams had been suspended amid the nationwide violence centering the Quota Reform Movement. Amid the unrest, educational institutions across the country closed on the night of July 16. The HSC and equivalent exams were suspended on July 18.
Later, the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee suspended the exams indefinitely from August 1 when the situation deteriorated further.
