Aminul Haque, the eminent and former captain cum custodian of Bangladesh national football team pledged that they would work to ensure a depoliticised and corruption-free sports arena in the country on Wednesday.
He was talking at a demonstration programme on the premises of the new building of the National Sports Council (NSC) at Paltan in Dhaka.
The demonstration was led by Aminul who is also the Sports Secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He was accompanied by BNP central leader and former general secretary of Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) Abdus Salam, former student-leader turned former member of the parliament Khairul Kabir Khokon, many officials of different sporting federations and associations as well as the deceived organisers, officials, and sportspersons during the past govt.
Aminul Haque said, "We are investigating the allegations of corruption that we have learned about at different times in different federations and associations. Those involved in corruption will be brought to justice."
"Sports is not a place for politics. If they hadn't been corrupted, they wouldn't run away. We don't want to see any corrupt sports organiser in any federation."
He added, "I would request the Sports Adviser that you sit with everyone in the sports arena, discuss and take suggestions and start the reform within a short time. Also, the district and divisional sports associations should be reformed. The entire sector needs transformation."
