Students at Jagannath University will be assisted by the Dhaka District Administration in their efforts to reclaim occupied halls.

During a meeting on Tuesday, held in the district administration conference room, Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman announced this initiative.

Anisur Rahman stated, "Addressing the issue of hall encroachments, as you've highlighted, is a significant responsibility for us. We plan to work closely with the university administration and students, providing necessary documentation to recover each hall. We aim to begin this operation from tomorrow."

He further noted that encroachments often involve fraudulent documents, leading to legal battles in the High Court. Therefore, it is crucial to proceed with caution and ensure proper measures are taken.

Regarding additional concerns, Jagannath University student SM Munna commented, "Student politics has been banned at our university. We expect the district administration to take legal action against anyone attempting extortion or creating disruptions under the guise of student organizations or hall recovery movements."

Student Maksudul Haque raised issues related to extortion in Old Dhaka, saying, "Previously, extortion was associated with the Awami League now it seems to be linked to the BNP. We seek clarification on the district administration's role in addressing this. Additionally, we hope the administration will address police involvement in extortion at Shyambazar and the difficulties faced by retired teachers in receiving their pensions."

Shaheen Alam San remarked, "Students were shot during protests, yet Councillor Choton, who is known to carry weapons, has faced no consequences. We hope the new Jagannath University campus construction is entrusted to the army."

Abu Bakar, another student, suggested, "We would like the district administration or local police to provide security if necessary. Gulshan Ara Hall should be returned to students which is currently under Haji Selim." Students also raised issues such as footpath encroachments, extortion at Sadarghat under the guise of tolls, and the ineffectiveness of traffic police.

In response, Anisur Rahman assured, "We will forward all written complaints to the Cabinet. Please provide the names of five representatives for coordination. We will provide weekly updates on the actions taken. If necessary, I am willing to accompany students to address extortion or toll collection issues at Sadarghat."

The meeting was attended by Dhaka District Police Super Md. Asaduzzaman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Momotaj Begum, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Shibli Sadique, and other officials.
