Policemen from various parts of the capital were seen returning to work following a warning issued by the government on Sunday.
On Monday morning, traffic police were seen on duty in the capital's Karwan Bazar, Bangla Motor, and Shahbagh areas to bring order to the streets.
Snehashish, assistant commissioner of the Tejgaon area, told bdnews24.com that the maximum number of traffic police have been stationed in the Ramna-Tejgaon area as it is an important part of the city.
"In particular, 80 percent of the force has been deployed in the Tejgaon area. The students have left after our arrival."
Mohamilul Islam, a pedestrian who was seen crossing Shahbagh said: "It feels so good to see the traffic police on the road after such a long time. It feels like there is something called police in the country."
In the early hours of Monday, Ariful Islam, a businessman from Old Dhaka was seen riding a bike to have tea with a friend. He told bdnews24.com: "I saw traffic police in the Bangabazar and Gulistan area in the morning.
There was a bit of uneasiness due to the streets being controlled by the students for the last few days. We want to see a real change this time. We want a corruption-free, people-friendly government."
However, traffic in Jatrabari's Kajla area, which serves as the capital's road link to the south through the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, was still overseen by students on Monday.
No police could be seen in Postagola, the Jatrabari intersection, or Dhalpur. No traffic police could be seen in the area. Nor were there any Ansar personnel.
Usually traffic in the area is controlled by police as well as employees of the leasee of Hanif Road.
But the employees have yet to rejoin work even though the torched toll plaza has been reactivated and toll collection has started again.
However, police could be seen in several busy parts of the capital like Gulistan, the Secretariat area, Paltan, in front of the Jatiya Press Club and the High Court area. They were seen redirecting and managing the day's traffic. —bdnews24.com
