Four top officials of the central bank resigned under pressure of agitating employees for their alleged involvement in manifolds irregularities on Monday.
Deputy Governor-1 Kazi Saidur Rahman and Deputy Governor-3 Khurshid Alam sent their resignation letters to Secretary of Banks and Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance.
On the other hand, the head of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) Masud Biswas and Central Bank policy advisor Abu Farah Nasser sent their resignation letter to the acting governor.
Earlier, on August 8, following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina's government amid the students led mass upsurge violent unrest started at the central bank. Angry officers and employees demonstrated in Bangladesh Bank premises and in front of the governor office demanding the governor resignation along with four deputy governors, advisers and the head of financial intelligence.
At one stage they forced Deputy Governor-1 Kazi Saidur Rahman to sign his resignation in a blank empty sheet to escape from demonstrators' wrath.
Meanwhile, agitators gave an ultimatum to top four officials of the central bank to resign by 1 pm on Monday. Demonstrators blamed Salman F. Rahman, owner of Beximco Group for stealing $ 30 million from EDF fund on August 4 allegedly helped by these officials.
