The High Court (HC) has directed the authorities concern not to collect tolls from ambulances carrying patients on roads, highways, bridges and flyovers across the country.

The High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Md Bazlur Rahman passed the order after hearing a writ petition on Monday.

Meanwhile, Advocate Md Monir Uddin stood for the writ petitioner.

According to the petition, collecting tolls after stopping an ambulance is similar to an inhumane act.

It mentioned that every second is crucial for a patient. Sometimes it could be seen that the condition of the patients, who are left stranded at the toll plazas, deteriorated as the ambulance can’t proceed.
