In a recent directive, Bangladesh Bank (BB) has imposed a temporary cap on cash withdrawals, restricting customers to a maximum of Tk 2 lakh per account over the coming week. This decision, effective from Sunday, August 11, is a precautionary measure in response to heightened security concerns due to ongoing disruptions in police services.
The central bank issued this order through SMS notifications to all banks across the country, urging them to comply with the new withdrawal limits. This move aims to mitigate risks associated with cash handling during a period of reduced law enforcement activity.
While cash withdrawals are limited, BB has clarified that account holders may still transfer amounts exceeding Tk 2 lakh between accounts or conduct digital transactions without restriction. This flexibility ensures that financial operations continue smoothly, despite the temporary cash withdrawal limit.
The central bank's action underscores its commitment to safeguarding financial transactions and maintaining stability in the banking sector during these challenging times. Bank customers are advised to plan their cash needs accordingly and utilize digital transaction options wherever possible.
