A woman and her granddaughter drowned in a beel in Tangail's Basail upazila on Sunday.
The accident took place in the afternoon at Kalia Uttarpara under Kauljani Union.
The deceased were Sufia Begum, 55, a resident of Kalia Uttarpara area under Kauljani union of the upazila, and her granddaughter Khadija, 12. They used to live in Dhaka.
Locals said Sufia Begum came home from Dhaka with her family two days ago. In the afternoon, she took his two granddaughters with her and went to see the water on the banks of Morabeel. At that time, Sufia Begum and her granddaughter Khadija drowned in the water while they were taking bath.
Later, they were rescued and taken to Basail Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
The hospital emergency department doctor SM Rafiur Rahman confirmed it.
