Two people were killed in a mob beating after they allegedly stabbed an auto-rickshaw driver and attempted to steal his vehicle in Dinajpur's Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The incident happened in Naushondighi area under Auliapur Union in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Shuvo Meraj ,20, a resident of Nimgar Balubari area of Dinajpur town and Tareq ,27,from Block 4 of the Upashahar area.
The injured auto-rickshaw driver, Abdur Rahim, was rushed to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
According to local residents, around 12:00 midnight on Saturday, Shuvo Meraj and Tareq rented an an auto-rickshaw and went behind Ramsagar.
At one stage, they stabbed the auto-bike driver and tried to escape with the vehicle.
However, locals apprehended and gave them a good thrashing. When their condition worsened, they were taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital at around 3 AM, where doctors declared them dead.
The Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station, Farid Hossain, confirmed the matter.
