Ashfaqul Islam, a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, is set to become the acting Chief Justice of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan submitted his resignation to the Law Ministry on Saturday (August 10), following widespread student protests.
The protesters issued an ultimatum asking six judges of the Appellate Division, including the Chief Justice to resign from their posts by 1PM on Saturday.
Following the resignation of the chief justice, five other justices in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court have also decided to resign, according to an official.
They are Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice Abu Zafor Siddique, Justice Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, Justice Md Shahinur Islam, and Justice Kashefa Hussain.
