Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan has decided to resign from his post.

His decision came following a students' protest on Saturday where he and judges of the Appellate Division was given an ultimatum to resign by 1pm.

Earlier today, the students gathered on the Supreme Court premises and gave the chief justice and other judges to resign by 1pm. Otherwise, they threatened to besiege their residences.
After that, the chief justice took the decision on principle of his resignation consulting the matter to Asif Nazrul, adviser to the ministry of law, justice and parliamentary affairs.

"There are some formalities for the resignation. I will send my resignation letter to President Mohammed Shahabuddin by this evening after completing the formalities," Obaidul Hasan added.
