Bangladesh Bank (BB) has asked all the banks of the country not to allow cash withdrawals over Tk 1 lakh from one account for Thursday (August 8).

But this decision is effective only for today.

The central bank gave the directive in an urgent message by its managing directors (MDs) on Wednesday night.
Bank officials say that despite the cash limit, account holders can transfer any amount of money to another account or conduct digital transactions of more than Tk 1,00,000.

In addition, the central bank has ordered the head offices of banks to halt disbursements to their branches on Thursday. It also encouraged customers to pay by cheques.

Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is going to take oath at night. For this, the decision has been taken for the sake of security.
