After the resignation of Sheikh Hasina from the post of Prime Minister on August 5, the police stations of Dhaka became devoid of policemen due to the student uprising. Later, all the police units became empty. People are angry about the role of the police in suppressing the movement of students.

After three consecutive days, police are returning to their duties of their respective units.
Police headquarters has directed that members of all units must report to work by Thursday (August 8) evening.

The directive said that the security of all specialized police units including Rajarbagh Police Lines, POM, Armed Police Battalions (APBN), all Metropolitan and District Police Lines, other police establishments should be ensured. Force discipline and chain of command must be restored and re-established.

All officers and forces of Rajarbagh Police Lines of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, POM, APBN, all Metropolitan and District Police Lines, all training institutes, all specialized police units have been directed to join their respective workplaces by Thursday evening.

It also said that during this period, officers and forces of all metropolitan, district, river police, railway and highway police stations have been directed to join the police lines of their respective units.

New Inspector General (IGP) Moinul Islam has expressed regret for the role of the police around the student movement in such a situation.
