At least 33 people, including police personnel, were killed in violence surrounding the anti-discrimination student movement in Savar area.
Of them, 27 people were shot dead; Six people were beaten to death.
The information was received from different hospitals of Savar and Ashulia around 10 am on Tuesday (August 6).
It was known that 13 died at Enam Medical in Savar after being shot. Three died at the Women's and Children's Hospital. Nine died in Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College and 2 at Habib Clinic.
On the other hand, six bodies were found lying in front of Ashulia police station. It is feared that the death toll may increase.
The agitators said that at the beginning of the day on Monday, a curfew was imposed by making barricades with barbed wire fences at various places on the highway. But the barricade was removed after seeing the flow of thousands of people on the road.
Later, when the news of Sheikh Hasina leaving the country spread, people came on the road and attacked the police station. The police fired from the roofs of various buildings to keep the gathering crowd in panic. Besides, the police opened fire from the police station area. At least 27 people were shot dead. Later, the agitated mob attacked the Ashulia police station. At that time, six other people including the police were killed. Their bodies are still lying in Ashulia police station area.
Women and Children Hospital Manager Harun Or Rashid said that three people came to their hospital with gunshot wounds and they died. Apart from this, others who were seriously injured in gunshot condition have been referred for better treatment.
