Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus has agreed to take over power as head of the interim government.

It is learnt that he agreed to the proposal of the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement to become the chief advisor of the interim government.
Earlier, the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement  has outlined plans for the formation of an interim government where they proposed  Dr Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser.

Nahid Islam, a key coordinator, announced this in a video message at about 4am on Tuesday.

"I didn't agree at first when I was contacted on behalf of the students. I told them I have a lot of work to finish. But the students repeatedly requested me, saying that we become successful through a bloodshed movement. Many people lost their lives in this movement and many students and common people were killed. Now Bangladesh has the opportunity to run the country in a proper way. And it is possible only if you take responsibility.

"It won't be good for any of us. If you do not agree to take the responsibility. For this, we are requesting you to take the power," according to a dependable source.

Dr Yunus also added, "I also considered that these students had protested so much, they had to pay so much for it. If the students can sacrifice so much, if the people of the country can sacrifice so much, then I also have some responsibility. Then I told the students that I can take the responsibility."
