Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Monday said an interim government will be formed, and they will go to the President. He stated that nothing will be achieved through clashes and destruction. "Each death will be investigated, and justice will be ensured." He added, "We had a good discussion with everyone. The Prime Minister has resigned. Together, we can resolve all issues."

He emphasized that it is everyone's responsibility to help the Army bring the situation under control soon. Earlier, the Army Chief had a meeting with representatives from civil society and some opposition leaders. There was no one from the Awami League at the meeting, said the Army Chief.
"I have ordered the army and the police to not open fire. We will try to reach a solution by tonight," he added. "Now, it is the responsibility of students to help the army," he said. The Army Chief mentioned that Dr Asif Nazrul conveyed a message to students, hoping they would remain calm.

"He (Asif Nazrul) sent a good message to students in front of me. We will hopefully head towards a good situation," he said. "If peace is restored, there is no need for a curfew. I hope the situation will improve with my speech," he said.

The Army Chief said that he would take the proposal for the interim government to President Mohammed Shahabuddin. On the second day of the student-led anti-government movement called by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, students and citizens took to the streets to march in Dhaka, leading Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign.

He stated, "If we work together, we will move towards a better situation. We will gain nothing from violence. Refrain from destruction and chaos. Together, we can build a better future. Every murder will be tried."

He added that after Hasina stood down, discussions were underway with leaders of political parties and civil society to form an interim government.
