Students from various institutions including Jahangirnagar University (JU) blocked Dhaka-Aricha highway as part of ‘all-out non-cooperation movement’ on Sunday morning.
Earlier, at around 11am, the students started gathering at the Shaheed Minar on the university campus and then proceeded in a procession to the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, where they staged a sit-in.
Students from nearby schools, colleges, and other universities also joined the protest.
As of filing this report, students are still on the highway.
Ahsan Labib, a key coordinator of the JU, said "We have taken to the streets with our one-point demand. We won’t return home until the fall of the dictatorship. Ganabhaban is the people's building, and there will be no place for autocrats there. We have started a new liberation war to free the people. We urge the public to join us on the streets."
The coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Saturday at the National Shaheed Minar announced the one point demand to steps down Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
