UN rights chief urges govt

The UN High Commi-ssioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has urged the government to take immediate steps to prevent further violence and ensure accountability.

Turk in a post on X, formerly Tweeter, on Saturday urged immediate action from the Bangladesh government to ensure the rights to peaceful assembly and rights to information.

The high commissioner on July 25 called for an impartial, independent, and transparent investigation into all alleged human rights violations during the quota reform protests, offering his office's support in this regard.
