A man was killed amid clashes between the protesting students and police in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Channapara area of the upazila.
The deceased Md. Jahangir Alam, 45, was a resident of Satkhira district and worked in a Spinning Factory, living in a rented house belonging to Md. Kajal Mia in Channapara village.
Sreepur Police Station officer-in-charge Akbar Ali Khan confirmed the death but unable to provide the actual reason behind this.
Kajal Mia, the owner of the rented house and a relative of the victim, said that Jahangir Alam was in his workplace during the clash. Around 3pm, he was informed that Jahangir's body was lying on the road.
The students tried to take him to a nearby hospital at Maona Chourasta for treatment, but he died on the way.
"I do not know whether he died from gunfire or not," he said.
Around 7:15pm, when journalists attempted to visit the victim’s rented house, they encountered people wielding sticks on the Maona-Sreepur regional road. These individuals also chased some media personnel who were attempting to take photos.
Beside this, Israt Jahan, a coordinator for the protesting students, claimed that over a hundred students were injured during the clashes on Saturday.
