A violent attack was carried out at the residences of Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel and Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim on Saturday evening.

The incident took place around 6.30pm at Bogdar Haat Chashma Hill area in Sholoshahar of Chattogram city.

Two private cars and a CNG-run auto rickshaw parked in front of the house were vandalised, which triggerred a clash between Chhatra League activists and the involved individuals.
However, Mohibul Hasan was not at home during the attack, but his family members were present.

The attack is alleged to have originated from a protest march of the anti-discrimination student movement. However, the leaders of the student movement have denied these allegations.

Denying the allegations, the anti-discrimination student movement's co-coordinator, Khan Talat Mahmud, said, "Our protest march ended at Tiger Pass intersection. If any untoward incident happened after that, the anti-discrimination student movement will not take responsibility."

Kazi Md. Tarek Aziz, additional deputy commissioner (Public Relations) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter adding, "We have heard about the matter. It is being investigated now."

Earlier, around 5:30pm, the office of MP Mohammad Mohiuddin Bacha of Chittagong-10 constituency in Lalkhan Bazar was also attacked, and the office was set on fire.

Additionally, police boxes in New Market, Tiger Pass, and GEC intersection were vandalized.
