At least five people were killed and a dozen others were injured in separate road accidents in Rajbari and Nilphamari on Friday.
Our Rajbari Correspondent added three persons were killed and at least 10 others injured in a collision between a bus and a truck in Rajbari Sadar upazila on Friday.
The accident happened around 8:00am in front of Rajbari Technical Training Centre on the Rajbari-Kushtia regional highway.
Two of the dead have been identified. They are BM Nazim Uddin, 50, a social worker of Rajbari city social services office, of Majlishpur village under Basantpur union of Sadar upazila, and truck helper Sakib, 20.
Eyewitnesses said a local bus from Kushtia was going to Faridpur in the morning. On the way, it collided with a cement-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. The truck fell into a ditch on the side of the road and the bus hit a shop. The bus driver died on the spot. At least 10 people were injured. Later, the two others died on the way to hospitals. Rajbari Ahladipur Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Jewel Rana confirmed it.
Our Nilphamari Correspondent added that two motorcycle-riding brothers died after being hit by an oil-carrying lorry in Nilphamari's Syedpur. The accident happened on Friday (August 2) afternoon in WAPDA Mor area of the town.
The dead Sumon, 27, and his younger brother Siam, 22, son of Elias Ali, were residents of Kacharipara under Nilphamari Sadar upazila.
According to eyewitnesses and police, the two deceased brothers were going towards Syedpur from Nilphamari riding on a motorcycle. On the way, an oil-carrying lorry coming from the opposite direction collided with the motorcycle in that area, leaving them injured.
Local people rescued them and took to hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
Syedpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Alam confirmed it. The body will be handed over to the family after legal proceedings, he said.
