Pro-Awami League teachers' platform at Dhaka University (DU), Blue Panel, on Thursday urged students to withdraw their protests as the government accepted their demands by reforming quotas in civil services.

Blue Panel made the request from a press conference held at DU Club.

In a written statement, Blue Panel Convener Prof M Amjad Ali said students' demands were met and they should avoid the path of agitation now.

Prof Amjad requested students to end the movement and sought their support to restore e educational environment on campuses across the country.

Condoling the deaths of those who got killed in violence during the Quota Reform Movement, he described the deaths as unfortunate.

The Blue Panel placed four demands to the DU administration.

The demands include punishing those responsible for untoward incidents on the campus through a proper investigation, bringing back congenial atmosphere for education, allotting hall seats only to regular students and ensuring safety of students, teachers, officers and employees of the university.

Asked if DU administration should resign for failing to protect students from attacks of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists and outsiders, attacks on teachers, vandalism of BCL leaders' rooms and controversial action of police on the campus, Prof Abdur Rahim denied the allegations and said the university administration played a 'responsible role' since the beginning of the Quota Reform Movement. "No major incident took place on the DU campus. We are sorry for some isolated incidents," said Prof Rahim

"We would have been happy if that wasn't the case either," Prof Rahim said, adding, "So the university played a responsible role. There is no question of failure here."

However, violence centring the Quota Reform Movement across the country first occurred on DU campus as BCL leaders and activists carried out attacks on protesters on July 15.
