BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon the government to resign from power as soon as possible seeking apology to the nation.

He said that the combined and spontaneous mass procession of thousands of students, teachers, guardians and people across the country ignoring the natural calamities and government's obstructions has proved once again that the nation has become united against the violent autocratic government.
The BNP leader said it in a statement sent to the mass media on Friday.

Mirza Fakhrul said a person was killed when law enforcing agencies and armed party cadres launched the peaceful mass procession of students in Habiganj on Friday.

Besides, the law enforcing agencies and ruling party cadres launched attacks on students and people at different places of the country including Uttara in Dhaka, Sylhet, Khulna, Chandpur and Luxmipur. They charged batons, fired rubber bullets, charged sound grenades and lobbed teargas shells on demonstrators. "We strongly condemn and protest against the arrest of hundreds of leaders and workers of the opposition across the country," he said.

In his statement, the BNP Secretary General also demanded of withdrawal of false cases against the students, stop harassing them and refrain from arresting them.
