Two people including a woman were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Laxmipur and Narayanganj, in three days.
RAMGATI, LAXMIPUR: An elderly man was killed and five others were injured in an attack carried out by their rivals in Ramgati Upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Ramdoyal Bazar under Char Algi Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Noor Nabi alias Sher Ali, 59. He worked as an office assistant at Abdul Hadi College in the upazila.
The injured persons are: Md Riaz, 32, Md Tamim, 29, Tareque, 25, Naimur Rahman Majnu, 40, and Abdul Wares, 35.
According to local sources, there was a dispute between one Shahadat and the deceased's nephew over teasing the latter's wife. To resolve the dispute, an arbitration took place at Ramdoyal Bazar under Char Algi Union on Tuesday morning. At that time, Shahadat along with his other family members attacked on Noor Nabi and his cohorts. Six people were critically injured at that time.
Later on, Noor Nabi succumbed to his injuries at around 12:30 pm while he was being taken to Ramgati Upazila Health Complex.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramgati Police Station (PS) Md Mosleh Uddin confirmed the incident, adding that two individuals were arrested and legal actions were underway in this regard.
NARAYANGANJ: A woman was beaten to death by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Araihazar Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The incident took place in Kalyandi area under Mahmudpur Union of the upazila at night.
The deceased was identified as Asma Akhter, 24, wife of Amzad Hossain, a resident of the area. She was the daughter of Falu Mia of Ramchandradi area under Gopaldi Municipality.
The deceased's family members said that Asma Akhter got married with Amzad Hossain, 30, son of late Kabir Hossain of Kalyandi area, in October, 2018. The couple was then blessed with two children.
However, Amzad recently started pressurising on Asma for dowry money. Due to this, he often used to physically torture her. As a sequel to it, he along with his family members beat up and strangled Asma on Sunday night, and trying to cover up the incident that she attempted to commit suicide.
Critically injured Asma was taken to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex first, and then, shifted to Narayanganj Popular Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body on Monday morning and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Araihazar PS OC Ahsan Ullah confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken after getting the autopsy report.
