Police have arrested 966 people in connection with 33 cases relating to violence and arson attacks during the quota reform movement in Chattogram.
Among theses cases, 22 cases were filed in various police stations in the port city while 11 cases in Chattogram district police stations.
According to the police, 966 people have been arrested in Chattogram city and district from the night of July 16 to 8 am on Tuesday, July 30.
Qazi Md Tarek Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations Department) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), confirmed the matter.
"22 cases have been filed with several police stations in Chattogram city in connection with murder, riots, terrorist activities and sabotage activities during the quota reform movement. A total of 566 people including 34 have been arrested in these cases in the last 24 hours," he added.
Meanwhile, Chattogram District Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Abu Taib Md Arif Hossain said that 11 cases have been registered with the police stations across Chattogram regarding attacks and vandalism and a total of 400 people including 12 have been arrested in these cases in the last 24 hours.
