After the verdict was deferred for the fifth time, the trial court on Thursday ordered fresh investigation into a case over instigating Aritry Adhikary a ninth grader at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College to commit suicide.
Thursday was fixed for pronouncing the judgement , Judge Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka 12th Additional Metropolitan Session court ordered fresh investigation in the case finding the probe report faulty.
The court ordered to withdraw the case from the Judgement stage and send it to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for further investigation.
The court fixed January 21 for delivering the verdict.
The two accused in the case - Nazneen Akhtar, then acting principal of Viqarunnisa School and College and Zinnat Ara, morning shift headmistress - are out on bail. Both were present in the court.
On Dec 3, 2018, Aritry's body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room, which was locked from inside, at her home in Dhaka's Shantinagar. School authorities had punished her for allegedly cheating in an exam a day before.
While school authorities claimed she cheated using a mobile phone, her family claimed she did not.
Aritry's parents were called to the school and the school authorities allegedly insulted them in front of her. She committed suicide on the same day.
Her classmates began to stage protests over her death.
Her father, Dilip Adhikary, filed a case on Dec 4 for instigating Aritry to commit suicide.
On March 28, 2019, Detective Branch of Police Inspector Kazi Kamrul Islam submitted the charge sheet against Nazneen and Zinat in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.
Her class teacher Hasna Hena was also named as an accused but her name dropped from the chargesheet.
Trial of Nazneen and Zinnat began on Jul 10, 2019.
