A total of 179 people were arrested in 16 cases filed with different police stations in Rajshahi division till Tuesday afternoon over the violence and sabotage centring the quota reform movement.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and Rajshahi district police spokespersons have informed the media.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Rafiqul Alam, spokesperson of Rajshahi district police, said a total of nine cases were filed with different police stations in the district in connection with the violence during the quota reform movement.
Some 86 people were arrested for their alleged involvement with the violent activities. After primary interrogation legal action were taken against the accused, he said.
Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Zamirul Islam, spokesperson of RMP, said a total of seven cases were filed with different metropolitan police stations, including Boalia, Motihar and Chandrima, till Monday and 93 people were arrested by the law enforcers, following violence linked to the quota reform movement..
The accused were sent to jail after taking legal actions in these connections, the spokespersons said.
