MIST student killed in clash with police, AL activists in Savar

A student was killed and 50 people were injured in Savar on Thursday in clashes between quota protesters and police, activists of Awami League and its associate bodies during the ongoing nationwide ‘complete shutdown’ over quota reform..

The victim was Shaikh Ashabul Yamin, a student of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Mirpur, and son of Md Mohiuddin.

Earlier, the quota protesters blocked the Pakiza bus stand on the Dhaka-Aricha highway around 12:30pm.  As they proceeded towards the Pakiza area, leaders and activists of the AL, its associate bodies, police, and BGB members chased them away.

Later, the protesters set fire to the highway, and the police later fired tear gas shells and opened fire on the protesters in Savar Bazar bus stand area around noon, leaving several injured.

Yusuf Ali, duty manager of Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, said six injured people were brought to the hospital and among them Yamin was brought to the hospital dead. There were bullet marks on his body.
