At least 12 shops were burnt in separate incidents in two districts - Barishal and Barguna, recently.
BARISHAL: Three shops were gutted by fire in Wazirpur Upazila of the district early Thursday.
The incident took place at Shikarpur Kitchen Market in the upazila at around 1:30 am.
It was known that the fire originated from an electric short circuit began at the kitchen market in Shikarpur Bazar area at early hours, which burnt at least three shops. On information, the Fire Service personnel from Wazirpur Station rushed in and controlled the blaze.
BETAGI, BARGUNA: Nine shops were gutted by fire in Betagi Upazila of the district recently.
The incident took place at Badnikhali Bazar in the upazila. Local sources said the fire began with a sweet shop at the market, and it soon engulfed the adjacent shops.
On information, two units of the local Fire Service Station rushed to the scene and controlled the blaze after a frantic effort.
Meanwhile, nine shops were completely gutted by the fire.
The affected shop owners claimed that goods worth about Tk 40 lakh were destroyed due to the fire.
Betagi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Faruque Ahmed and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Bipul Shikder visited the scene.
