The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have taken decision that no outsiders will be allowed at the residential halls of the university due to ongoing clashes between quota reform activists and members of the Chhatra League.
This decision was made during a meeting with the provosts on Monday evening.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Maksud Kamal said that provosts will stay overnight in the residential halls to ensure student safety. The VC said that they have made several executive decisions in the meeting, which will be communicated through a press release.
Meanwhile, Rafiq Islam, Provost of Sir AF Rahman Hall, said that they had been instructed to maintain peace in their halls. He said police had not entered any halls but were asked to stay alert near Shahidullah Hall. He mentioned that no directive has been issued to close the halls yet..
Earlier in the afternoon, the VC Maksud Kamal held a meeting at his residence with the provosts of various halls to discuss the ongoing clashes between quota reform activists and BCL members and quell the situation.
A tensed situation has been prevailing on the DU campus after 3pm, regarding the clashes between the quota reform activists and BCL men.
