State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu has laid emphasis on using Ranong Port in Thailand which is closer to Bangladesh while trading with Chattogram port to reduce traveling time and cost in Thailand and Bangladesh trade.
He also called upon the Thai government to sign the free trade agreement ( FTA) to accelerate the utilization of business potentials of both the countries to the mutual interest of the two countries.
He made the comment at a reception held in Dhaka on Sunday for Dr. Nalinee Taveesin, Adviser to the Thai Prime Minister and Thailand Trade Representative now leading a high profile business delegation comprising of 25 members of corporate bodies from July 13 to 17, says a press release.
President of Thai-Bangladesh business chamber Shams Mahmud on this occasion called upon the Thai companies to come up with more investment in Bangladesh where a lot of business friendly environment exists. Welcoming the Thai delegation, he also emphasized for more strategic partnerships to exploit business and investment opportunities.
Bangladesh Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTCCI) and Thai Embassy in Dhaka organized the event. The Thai business delegation is visiting Dhaka following a four-day Bangladesh-Thai trade fair from July 10 to 13.
The main purpose of the visit of the Thai delegation is to promote bilateral trade and investment opportunities between two friendly countries. During the visit, an effective business to business (B2B) matchmaking was held at Renaissance Hotel in the city.
Over 120 business contracts were held between Thai delegation members and interested BTCCI members. Later in the reception for Dr. Nalinee Taveesin, state minister for commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu attended as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion he emphasized on boost trade and investment between the two countries as part of the government economic diplomacy. He called for signing the FTA between two nations to exploit greater business opportunity that exit between the two countries.
He said Thailand is an advanced economy and as a business hub of the Asia-Pacific region the strategic partners will open greater path to cooperation, both bilaterally and multilaterally, he pointed out.
Makawadee Sumitmor, Ambassador of Thailand to Bangladesh, Dr Md. Sarwar Bari, Executive Chairman of BEZA, Md Munir Hossain, Sr Vice President of BTCCI and Vice President of FBCCI, Md. Salem Sulaiman, Vice President, M A Momen, Former President of BTCCI and DCCI, were among others attended the event.
