Four new garment factories in Bangladesh have received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certificates as green factories turning the number of environmentally friendly green factories in the country to 224.
The Green Building Council (USGBC) of the United States provides international recognition of green factories Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED certification.
The green factories of the country include 88 in platinum category, 122 in gold and the rest are in silver category. The newly certified factories are Big Boss Corporation Limited, Anant Jeanswear Limited, Basic Shirt Limited and Aptech Cashwar.
In the latest estimate, 59 of the worlds top 100 highest rated LEED certified factories are now located in Bangladesh.
They give this certificate to the highest quality factories by thoroughly analyzing the issue of environmental protection at all stages from the construction of the industrial factory building to the production of products.
Such certification is looked at as a highly positive sign of safety and quality protection of garments factories by buyers when they place buying orders in the environmentally sensitive buyers communities in the USA and the European Union.
The organization also certifies commercial buildings, educational institutions, houses and other structures.
Regarding the recognition of green factories, Director of Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association-BGMEA Mohiuddin Rubel said, this milestone will highlight Bangladeshs progress in increasing green production capacity.
