Police arrested a school teacher for trying to violate a six grader-girl at Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district on Wednesday night.
The arrested man is Rezaul Karim, 45, a librarian of Shamas Chura High School in Nalitabari, and a local Awami League leader. He also runs a pharmacy in Shamas Chura bazar.
It was learnt that the girl went to Rezaul Karim's house to take medicine for headache on Wednesday morning. Then, he took the girl to the pharmacy for giving medicine.
Rezaul touched the girl's body with bad intention at the pharmacy and tried to violate her. Then, the girl screamed understanding the motive of Rezaul and he left her.
The girls shared this incident with her family members after going home.
On Wednesday afternoon, victim's mother filed a case with Nalitabari Police Station as they did not get any solution from the school in the matter.
Following the case, police arrested the Rezaul at night.
Monirul Islam Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Nalitabari Polce Station, said that the accused was arrested after filing a case.
Rezaul was produced before the court on Thursday afternoon, the OC added.
