Chattogram court on Wednesday sentenced two alleged drug peddlers to life term imprisonment for trading
drugs in 2022.
The Court of Chattogram First Metropolitan Additional Sessions Judge Kamal Hossain Sikder delivered the punishment to Azam Uddin Chowdhury, 26 and Sayed Nur alias Rubel Hossain, 30, hailed from Karnapuli upazila of the district.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer more six months imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Azam and Sayed Nur with 2,04,900 pieces Yaba pills from their residence at Shah Mirpur village under Karnapuli upazila of the district on September 17 in 2022.
The then RAB, Deputy Assistant Director Abdul Motin Chowdhury filed a case with Karnapuli Police Station against the alleged drug traders on September 18 in 2022.
Police pressed the charge-sheet before the court on March 4, in 2023 against them while the court framed charges against the two drug traders on July 12, 2023.
The court announced the verdict in presence of the convicted persons after examining a total of six prosecution witnesses out of 13.
