Bangla Academy award winning poet Makid Haider passed away on Wednesday morning.
He breathed his last at about 8:30am at his Uttara residence in the capital, Makid Haider's son Asif Haider confirmed.
The body of the poet will be taken to Bangla Academy premise at 2:00pm for people from all walks of life to pay their last respect.
He will be buried at his family graveyard in Pabna, Asif Haider added.
Makid Haider had been suffering from various old age complications. He left behind his wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his death.
He was born on September 28, 1947 at noted Haider family at Doharpara village in Pabna district. All of his family members are the established litterateurs in Bengali language. Of them, noted dramatist Zia Haider and Rashid Haider have died. His another brother Daud haider is an exiled poet. His other brothers are Zahid Haider, Abid Haider and Arif Haider. They are also associated with literature and culture. Makid Haider had played a substantial role in the arena of literature for five decades.
