Bangladesh Bank has freezed the bank accounts of 17 people including former driver of PSC chairman for their alleged involvement in question paper leaking.
Their bank accounts were freezed on Tuesday (July 9).
Earlier in the day, 10 people including Abed Ali's son Sohanur Rahman Siam were sent to jail by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Huque's court passed the order.
On that day, 17 accused were produced before the court in the case. Of them, seven accused including former driver of PSC chairman Syed Abed Ali agreed to make confessional statements voluntarily. Then the investigation officer (IO) of the case and CID's additional special police super Jewel Chakma pleaded to the court to record their confessional statements.
Besides, the IO pleaded to the court to keep the rest 10 accused detained in jail. Then the lawyers of the 10 accused pleaded to the court to grant their clients bail. However, the counsel representing the state opposed their bail. After the hearing of both sides, the court passed an order sending the 10 accused to jail instead of granting them bail.
The accused who were sent to jail were PSC Deputy Directors Md Abu Zafar and Md Jahangir Alam, Assistant Director Md Alamgir Kabir, ex-army member Noman Siddiqui, Auditor Priyanath Roy, businessman Md Zahidul Islam, Narayanganj passport office's security guard Shahadat Hossain, Dhaka's Immigration and Passport Office employee Md Mamunur Rashid and Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital's medical technician Md Niamun Hasan.
