24 shops burnt in Barguna, Bagerhat

At least 24 shops were burnt in separate incidents in two districts - Barguna and Bagerhat, in two days.

PATHARGHATA, BARGUNA: Four shops were gutted by fire that broke out in Ukil Patti area under Patharghata Municipality in the district on Friday night.

In-Charge of Patharghata Fire Service Station Rafiqul Islam said primarily they suspect that the fire might have originated from an electric short circuit in Ukil Patti area.
 
On information, the Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control, he added.

The loss due to the fire could not be ascertained yet, the Fire Service official added.

BAGERHAT: At least 20 shops were gutted by a devastating fire that broke out in a market in Sharankhola Upazila of the district on Thursday.

The victims and Fire Service sources said the fire erupted in one of the shops of Rayenda Panch Rasta intersection in the upazila at around 10:30 pm.

Rayenda Bazar Committee General Secretary Moniruzzaman Babul blaming the Fire Services negligence for failing to control the fire promptly claimed that the fire caused a loss of some Tk two crore.

He urged the government to compensate the affected shopkeepers for survival.

Denying the allegation, Sharankhola Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer Md Aftab E Alam said that the fire was intense and took an hour to bring under control.

He assured that there is no longer a risk of the fire spreading. However, he could not immediately provide the exact amount of the damage caused by the fire.

The blaze was brought under control by the efforts of the fire service and local residents, with the assistance of heavy rain that started at around 11:30 pm.

The affected shop owners claimed that valuables worth about Tk two crore were completely damaged due to the fire.
