A farmer was killed and three others were injured in an attack by rivals over a land dispute in Sherpur's sadar upazila on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Samidul Haque Kena ,65, a resident of Joginimura Namapara village in the upazila.
It was learnt that Samidul had a dispute with his neighbors Harun and Siddiq Khalifa over a piece of land.
On Saturday morning, the rivals attacked and beat Samidul while he was trying to intervene his opponents to plant banana trees on the disputed land, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Sherpur district hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Parvez Mia, son of Samidul and two others were injured in the attack. They were admitted to the district hospital.
Md. Shafiqul Islam, Inspector (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station, said land dispute might be the reason behind the murder.
Legal steps are underway in this regard, he added.
