A court has directed to confiscate all movable and immovable properties worth Tk 1,000 crore of National Board of Revenue (NBR)'s first secretary Kazi Abu Mahmud Faisal.
Kazi Abu Mahmud Faisal is the first secretary of Taxes and Legal Enforcement at NBR.
Responding to a prayer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad As Shams Jaglul Hossain passed an order on Thursday ordering to confiscate his properties.
The properties ordered to confiscate also include a flast of Kazi Abu Mahmud Faisal in Dhaka and two 10-katha plots.
Besides, the court ordered to seize savings certificates worth Tk 2,55,000,00 in the names of him and his wife.
ACC's public prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain Kajol said NBR's first secretary Kazi Abu Mahmud Faisal has become an owner of huge wealth through bribe and corruption. The ACC is investigating it.
It is learnt that the NBR official had accumulated illegal wealth worth Tk 1,000 crore.
Primarily, an ACC investigation team found his movable and immovable properties including one flat, residential plots in Dhaka, and savings certificates worth Tk 16 crore. The ACC submitted a prayer to the court on Thursday seeking permission to confiscate and attach thos e properties. The court granted the prayer.
The ACC, in written, informed the court that Abu Mahmud Faisal had transacted bribes misusing his power. He opened more than 700 bank accounts in his and relatives' names to conceal the sources of his income through corruption.
A detailed description of the properties of Abu Mahmud Faisal has been placed to court on behalf of the ACC.
