An oil carrying trawler caught fire on the Buriganga river in Narayanganj's Fatullah on Wednesday afternoon.

At that time, the oil drums exploded with a big bang which shook the whole area.

Four workers were on board the tanker. Of them, one managed to swim ashore, but others went missing, it was learnt.

Sound of the explosion shook the surrounding areas.

Eight firefighting units are trying to douse the fire that originated around 1:30pm, said Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of Fire Service's media cell.

The trawler was heading towards Barishal's Monpura, said Ziaur Rahman, in-charge of Meghna depot.

The cause behind the fire could not be known immediately.
