Two killed, 40 Injured in Sirajganj clash

Two were killed and another 40 others injured in a clash over previous enmity at Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj district on Tuesday morning.

The clash broke out at Charbarnia area under Gala union of the upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Sanowar Hossain Molla, 32, a farmer and son of Khoda Box Molla from Dakshinpara, and Tamim, 15, son of Sobahan Ali, who succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Dhaka from Pabna Hospital on Tuesday night.

Sanowar Hossain was killed on the spot during the clash, and Tamim died later due to severe injuries.

According to the victims' relatives, the conflict centers around a newly constructed embankment for river protection that runs through their land. Abdul Kuddus, uncle of the deceased, accused the Akher Sheikh of Charbarnia Uttarpara area, Hamid Molla, Matin Molla, and Abdul Pramanik of illegal activities, including constructing shops on either side of the embankment and engaging in illicit drug trade. The conflict over these issues has persisted for years.

The altercation escalated early Tuesday when members of Akher's group, armed with lethal weapons, led by Sayem, attacked their rivals.

The ensuing battle lasted about two hours, involving exchanges of projectiles and extensive property damage and looting.At that time, Sanowar Hossain Molla was fatally wounded. Twenty to twenty-five individuals from Sayem’s group suffered injuries, and several were admitted to separate hospitals in Pabna and Bogura for better care.

The family members of the deceased demanded justice for their father's brutal murder and severe punishment for those responsible.

Shahjadpur Police Station officer-in-charge Aslam Hossain said that the police rushed there and recovered the bodies from the spot.

Additional police have been sent to the spot to maintain law and order, he said.

The victim’s mother, Ontri Khatun, has filed a murder case against 125 named individuals and several hundred unknown suspects, he said.

Two suspects, Shukchand, 45, and Arshed, 60, have been arrested and legal actions will be taken in this regard, added the OC.
