80pc drug abusers are youth

Adolescents and youths are growing in numbers among the patients undergoing treatment at the most drug addiction treatment centers in Bangladesh.

According to latest survey approximately 7.5 million Bangladeshis are addicted to drugs, and 80% are adolescents and young people 15–30 years of age. These groups come from different socio-economic backgrounds.
They basically are school, college or university students.

This information came out in a press conference at the an international standard specialized drug Treatment and rehabilitation center Ahsania Hena Ahmed Monojotno Kendra, located at Alampur of Hasara union under Sreenagar upazila in Munshiganj held recently.
Manager of the center Deepak Hasdak and senior councilor Abu Hasan Mondal presented information about the center.
They said that the 108 patients received medical services from 2021 till now. About 80pc of them were young people.
The journey of this center started on February 9, 2021. However, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan MP officially inaugurated this center on July 8, 2023.

Ahsania Hena Ahmed Monojotno Kendra built on the land donated by Hena Ahmed under the initiative of Dhaka Ahsania Mission.
All types of drug addicts and mental patients (male) of any religion, caste or tribe can be admitted to this center. Those who have mental problems due to drug use can also be admitted here.
The Center established by Dhaka Ahsania Mission provides multi-faceted specialized medical services to substance users and clients with mental disorders.

The five-storied center has 50 beds, an open environment, cabins, deluxe beds, assessment facilities, individual and group counseling facilities, meditation facilities, case management, a library, a gym for exercise, religious practices, ambulance services, family programs, and post-treatment follow-up facilities.

Apart from this, facilities of x-ray, modern diagnostics, ultra-sonogram, modern quality operation theatre and emergency medical services are available at the adjacent Hena Ahmed Hospital also managed by Dhaka Ahsania Mission. Here the duration of the treatment is at least 3 months.

For the first 14 days after admission, treatment to provide drug withdrawal is called detoxification.
After knowing the drug taking history of the patient and necessary tests, medical care is provided as per the doctor's advice.

During this time, the patient is kept in an environment suitable for physical and mental rest.
Post-treatment job opportunities are provided considering the patient's physical and mental, educational qualifications, employment mindset.

Single room/AC Cabin 60,000 Tk, double seat room AC 45,000 Tk, three and four seater room 35,000 Tk per month in Monojotno Kendra. 2 months fee is accepted in advance at the time of admission. Financially distressed people can also apply for free of cost.  
Meanwhile, talking with two patients receiving treatment at the center expressed their feelings about their drug addiction life and treatment life. They are satisfied to get proper medical treatment of this institution.

It should be noted that the Health sector of Dhaka Ahsania Mission has been implementing various anti-drug program activities since 1990.
