Success of cantonment schools and colleges

It is worth committing to paper that the Bangladesh Army is currently operating sixty-three cantonment public schools and colleges that every year carve out a niche as either the best or by far the best institutions in their respective regions in terms of the results in SSC and HSC examinations. In the SSC examination of 2024, these institutions secured a 99.48 percent pass rate with a 6090 GPA-5 out of 8603 examinees across the country.


The preliminary goal of cantonment schools and colleges is to ensure the spread ofinclusive and equitable quality education, promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all in line with Goal Four of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). These institutions, by virtue of quality education, seek to createcerebral and patriotic minds who, after securing optimal results in public examinations like SSC and HSC, are either commissioned as officers in the Armed Forces of Bangladesh or sent to the universities, for further upskilling and training as nation builders to work for the cause of the country. Such distinct contribution and continued success of cantonment schools and colleges in fostering and upbringing nation builders are explicit and acclaimed.

On May 12, the premier unveiled this years SSC and equivalent examinations results, wherein around 83.04 percent of students passed. The overall pass rates in the nine general education boards and one madrasa board are: 83.92 percent in Dhaka, 89.13 percent in Barishal, 82.80 percent in Chattogram, 79.23 percent in Cumilla, 78.43 percent in Dinajpur, 92.33 percent in Jashore, 89.26 percent in Rajshahi, 73.35 percent in Sylhet, 85.00 in Mymensingh and 79.66 percent in madrasa board.

In the SSC examination of 2024, these institutions secured a 99.48 percent pass rate with a 6090 GPA-5 out of 8603 examinees across the country. Moreover, five of these institutions laudably secured places among the fifteen educational institutions, enlisted by the Dhaka EducationBoard, which outshone other institutions in this years SSC result.

Likewise, it is germane to mention that 6067 examinees of 10 institutions under the Logistics Area Dhaka attended the HSC examination in 2023. Of them, 3609 students achievedGPA-5, which was59.48% of the total candidates. Nirjhor Cantonment Public School and College; Bangladesh International School and College, Nirjhor; Bangladesh International School and College, Mohakhali; and Baridhara Scholars International School and College had capitally secured a 100% pass rate. The other six institutions had a pass rate of 99% or higher. These institutions eclipsed other institutions in terms of both the percentages of students who passed and those who achieved GPA-5.

Not only do cantonment schools and colleges cut a fine figure in public examinations, but they also showcase the phenomenal efficacy of being the feeder institutions alongside cadet colleges, also run by the Armed Forces of Bangladesh, which have been playing the same role since their inception. The students of cantonment schools and colleges, by dint of a high sense of morality, responsibility, integrity, leadership quality, discipline and patriotism, are progressively commissioned as officers of the Armed Forces.

In the year 2020-2024, 232 students of cantonment schools and colleges of Headquarter Logistics area, Dhaka got commissioned as officers in the Bangladesh Army and so did 37 students in the Bangladesh Navy and 56 students in the Bangladesh Air Force, adding up to 325 officers. The chart below illustrates the data in detail.

Moreover, a good number of students from cantonment schools and colleges get into different prominent universities, such as BUET, IBA, DU, JU, BUP, MIST, MC, AFMC etc. Of them, many opt for a career in the Armed Forces on completion of their studies. However, all students of cantonment schools and colleges who are commissioned as officers after HSC and who, after graduation or postgraduation, dedicate themselves in nation-building activities, fulfilling their assigned responsibilities and catering to the needs of the country always, be it in warfare or in disaster.

In conclusion, cantonment schools and colleges are evidentlyachieving excellence at entry-level public examinations, viz., SSC and HSC, by dint of trained faculty, conducive ambience and needful facilities. In addition, thorough scrutiny of intakes and an efficient principalship managed and supervised directly by the Bangladesh Army, help cantonment schools and colleges become the feeder institutionsof the Armed Forces of Bangladesh and provide a lions share of students to the universities as well. Thus, cantonment schools and colleges are ceaselessly contributing to nation building, ensuring quality education and churning out accomplished citizens.
