Bangladesh will take on the Netherlands in the 27th match of the ICC Mens T20 World Cup 2024 at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown in St Vincent on Thursday, following a disappointing 4-run loss to South Africa.

The outcome of the match between Bangladesh and South Africa might have been different if not for several umpires decisions that went against Bangladesh and they continued poor form of their top four batters.

Bangladesh restricted South Africa at 113 runs for six wickets, thanks to another impressive performance by their bowlers.

Tanzim Sakib delivered a career-best spell of three for 18, while Taskin Ahmed claimed two for 19, with Rishad Hossain contributing one wicket for 32 runs.

Heinrich Klaasen (46), David Miller (29) and Quinton de Kock (18) were the only South African batters to reach double figures.

South Africa could have been restricted to below 100 if Bangladesh wicketkeeper Liton Das hadn dropped Miller on the first delivery of the 11th over from Mahmudullah. Miller was on 13 at that point and South Africa were 57 for four.

However, chasing a target of 114, Bangladesh lost Tanzid Tamim (9), skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (14), Liton Das (9) and Shakib Al Hasan (4) early, putting them under pressure. Tawhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah brought Bangladesh back into the game, but Hridoys controversial LBW decision derailed their chase. Hridoy scored 37 while Mahmudullah added 20 as Bangladesh finished on 109 for seven.

Keshav Maharaj took three wickets for South Africa, with Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje sharing the remaining wickets equally.

Batting remains a major concern for Bangladesh, with performances from Shanto, Liton and Shakib making things difficult for the team.

Considering the spin-friendly wicket in the West Indies, Bangladesh may drop Jaker Ali to bring in off-spinning all-rounder Sheikh Mahedi Hasan.

The match is crucial for both Bangladesh and the Netherlands, as the winner will move one step closer to the next stage of the tournament. Both teams have two points from one win and one loss.

The two sides have met four times previously, with Bangladesh winning three times and the Netherlands once.

Kingstown is known for its batting-friendly nature with assistance to spinners. The weather forecast shows a slight chance of rain with heavy winds on the day of the match. The toss-winning side is likely to bat first and aim to post a substantial total to defend.
