Three people, including a man and his pregnant wife, were killed in a crash between a truck and a CNG-run autorickshaw at Hajiganj upazila in
Chandpur district on Tuesday afternoon.
The
accident took place around 3pm on the Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway at Gogra area under Bakila union of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Md Mozammel, son of Abul Khair, of Baburhat area in Chandpur district town, and his pregnant wife Pinky Begum, and Sabuj Howlader, 24, son of Rafiqul Islam, a resident of Hawlader Bari area under the union.
Citing locals, Bakila Union Parishad chairman Mizanur Rahman said the accident occurred when a sand-laden truck rammed the CNG-run autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction while it was heading towards Chandpur with passengers, leaving Sabuj dead on the spot and three others critically injured.
The injured were rescued and taken to Chandpur Sadar Hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries.
Confirming the matter, Hajiganj Police Station officer-in-charge Abdur Rashid said on information, they have seized the truck from the spot and legal actions were underway to be taken in this regard.
