State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury on Sunday said that investigation of the probe committee on manipulation in Malaysian labour market for Bangladeshi migrants is going on. Once the probe report is received stringent punitive measures will be taken.
"The deadline for the complaint submission to the investigation committee is over. The probe body will now talk to the victims and submit their probe report. It is working on the matter. Once the investigation is completed and report is received you will be informed in detail. Hope, there will be recommendations on what kind of punishment should be given to those who are guilty," the state minister said while talking to media after a meeting with a Japanese delegation met his at his office.
Shafiqur Rahman assured that necessary measures would be taken for those affected in going to Malaysia.
According to the mass notice published in different newspapers by the ministry, the victim and deprived intending Malaysia bound Bangladeshi migrants were given June 8 deadline for enrolling the names with valid documents.
According to ministry sources, more than 2,900 complaints have been received from the deprived migrants through phone and e-mails and in person presence in the ministry.
In the meeting with the state minister, the 11-member Japanese delegation informed him that some Japanese private companies have offered to hire skilled manpower from Bangladesh.
The state minister said, "The Japanese companies have expressed interest in hiring more skilled professionals, technical and construction workers from Bangladesh. We have requested them to apply following the proper procedure."
The Technical Training Centers (TTCs) will be arranged for the Japanese delegation to provide them with the necessary technical training, he said adding that they will provide training to the interested workers and will be able to select the qualified ones.
The Japanese delegation was led by Masafumi Yurigumi of Yurigumi Maritime Company Limited, Japan.
