Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the convict, who was sentenced to life-term imprisonment for raping a sixth grader in Sherpur's Nalitabari upazila in 2021, from Mohanganj Upazila in Netrakona district on Tuesday night.
The convict is Shaheen Mia, 39, from Bankura village under Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur district.
According to RAB sources, after being rejected by the victim, a sixth-grade madrasa student, Shaheen along with his accomplice Habib abducted her on June 30, 2013 from Kachimau village in Nanni union of the upazila. They then, took her to an empty place where he violated the teenager.
Later, the victim’s grandmother, Rahitan Nesa, filed a rape case with Nalitabari Police Station.
On February 1, 2021, a Sherpur court found Shaheen guilty sentenced him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 20,000 , with an additional six months of imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
Additionally, in an another section of the same act, he was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk 50,000, with an additional one year of imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
Shaheen had been in hiding for nearly ten years following the verdict.
He was then, handed over to Nalitabari Police Station on Wednesday morning (June 5), added the RAB sources.
