A youth was beaten to death by an angry mob at Chatkhil upazila in Noakhali district on Sunday morning as he hacked a UP member.
The deceased was identified as Aham Ahmed Hamba, 20, son of Akbar Patowari, a resident in the area.
Earlier at about 5am, Ahad went to the local UP member Omar Faruq's house with a machete and called him out. Before understanding anything, Ahad attacked member Faruk with the machete, leaving him critically injured.
At that time, Ahad also attacked Faruq's nephew Saleh Ahmed Khan as he tried to save the member.
Family members rescued them and took to Noakhali General Hospital. Member Omar Faruq was, later, referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
When the news of this attack spread, locals went to Ahad's house and cordoned him there.
The agitated crowd then beat up Ahad mercilessly and Ahad died on the scene.
Emadadul Haque, officer in-charge of Chatkhil Police Station, said that the body they sent the body to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Two separate cases are under process, the OC added.
