Great danger signal no 10 for Mongla, Payra ports

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) in a special bulletin asked Mongla and Payra ports to hoist great danger signal number 10 as Cyclone Remal over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas has intensified into a severe cyclone.

The coastal districts Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Barguna, Bhola, and Patuakhali will be under great danger signal number 10.

Meanwhile, Cox's Bazar and Chattogram seaports asked to hoist great danger signal number 9.
The met office published the forecast on its website on Sunday morning.

Cyclone Remal has now intensified into a severe cyclonic storm.

At 6am on Sunday, the storm was located 400 km from Chattogram sea port, 360 km southwest of Cox's Bazar, 330 km from Mongla sea port, and 295 km south from Payra sea port.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the severe cyclone centre is about 90 kph rising to 120 kph in gusts or squalls; sea will remain high near the severe cyclone centre.

The coastal districts of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur and their islands and chars will come under great danger signal number 9.

All fishing boats and trawlers in north Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
