Eight killed in road mishaps in 5 districts

Eight people were killed and several others were injured in separate road accidents in Satkhira, Chattogram, Mymensingh, Jashore and Tangail districts.

In Satkhira: A college student was killed after being crushed under the wheels of a truck at Nawabenki Bazar of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira district around 9.30am on Saturday.


The deceased was identified as Palash Aulia, 17, son of Bhola Aulia and a resident of Jelekhali village under Munshiganj union of the upazila. He was a student of class 11 of Nowabenki College.

Eyewitness Biswajit said a speedy dumper truck rammed the motorbike of Palash from the opposite direction when he was going to his college on the bike, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor Dr. Sakir Hossain declared him dead.

In Jashore:  A truck driver was killed  and two others were injured after the vehicle lost control and hit a roadside tree in Sadipur area of Jashore-Magura road 7am on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Arijul Islam, 30. Two people, including the helper of the truck, were injured including.

Abhijit Singh Roy, in-charge of Khajura Police Camp, said the accident occurred when a rod-laden truck crashed into a roadside tree after its driver lost control of the wheels, leaving the driver dead on the spot and two others injured.

Jashore Fire Service rescued the injured helper and sent to Jashore Medical College Hospital.


In Chattogram:  Two people were killed and two others injured in a collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Chattogram-Khagrachhari highway in Hathazari upazila of Chattogram on Saturday noon.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Motaleb Tuku, 70, and Md. Absar,55 of Hathazari upazila.
Nazirhat Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector Anisul Islam said the injured were taken to a hospital.

In Tangail: A driver and his helper were killed as their covered van hit a lorry truck hit on Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Pouli area of Kalihati upazila in Tangail district around 5.30am on Saturday.

The driver of the covered van was identified as Alamgir Hossain, hailed from Jashore district, while the details about the helper of the vehicle could not be known immediately.

Elenga Highway Police outpost officer-in-charge Mir Mohammad Sajedur Rahman said a Dhaka-bound covered van crashed into a lorry on the south side of Pauli Bridge on the Dhaka-North Bengal highway, leaving the duo dead on the spot.

The front part of the covered van was smashed, leaving the driver and the helper of the covered dead on the spot, he said.


In Mymensingh: An elderly couple was killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway of Amtali area under Habirbari union of Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh district around 11.15pm on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Abbas Ali Dewan, 60, and his wife Hazera Khatun, 50, residents of Kalmegha village in Sakhipur Upazila of Tangail.

Confirming the matter, Bhaluka Police Station officer-in-charge Shah Kamal Akanda said the duo faced the tragic accident while they were going to visit their grandchild's house at Amtali area in Bhaluka. On the way, a bus ran over them while they were crossing the road, leaving them dead on the spot.

Police seized the bus but the driver managed to escape.
